-
It has significant growth promotion effect in dicotyledons (for example carrot, cucumber, sunflower) that is able to reach an average of 20%.
Competition:
The only one similar product is CONTANS produced by Prophyta GmbH. Based on comparative examinations:
-
CONTANS contains significantly higher amount of fungal spores,
-
The effectiveness of KONI/ÖKO-NI against Sclerotinia is not worse than effectiveness of CONTANS,
-
CONTANS has no growth promoter effect but KONI/OKO-NI has significant growth promoter effect,
-
The price of CONTANS is much higher.
Registration overview: KONI was registered as biological fungicide (granules for spreading) in Hungary in 1997. WG (wettable granule) formulated biological fungicide was registered in Hungary in 1999. Registration was elongated with 10 years in 2004 just before joining to the EU. Hungarian authority prescribed a compliance procedure to check whether active agent in KONI satisfy requirements given to the active agent already present in Annex 1. It was a false attitude. Active agent of KONI should have been put as a new one to a transient list. Compliance was rejected by the EU administration because the two fungal strains (one on the Annex 1 list and one in KONI) have different names in 2008. Re-registration of the WG formulated product called ÖKO-NI went through in Hungary as a microbiological growth promoter in 2009.
Registration plans, possibilities: The WP formulation has advantages in effectiveness, shelf life and logistic. Official examination results for registration of the WP formulation as microbiological growth promoter are available and the registration process will be completed in 2010. Similar registration process as growth promoter is also possible in several European countries. Presence of local distributor partner is necessary to start this kind of registration. Registration as plant protection product needs high financial sources. It rewuires financial partner.
Potential partners: There are a few companies interested in a Coniothyrium minitans preparation. A Spanish company dealing with biological preparations seems to be really serious. Registration in Chile and Morocco was initiated by them several years ago but they are not completed yet.
Trade: Product is sold on the Hungarian market. Exclusive distributor is the Hungarian Kwizda Ltd supplied with the product by Bio-Protector Ltd.
TRIFENDER
Active ingredient: T1 strain of Trichoderma asperellum (NCAIM 68/2006) own property
Formulation:
- WG
- active ingredient content (cell counting by Bürker hemocytometer): 6×107 spore/g, vitality min. 60%,
- composition: active ingredient approx. 1%, glucose 75% w/w, perlite 18% w/w, water content approx. 6%
- WP
- active ingredient content (cell counting by Bürker hemocytometer): 3×108 spore/g, vitality min. 60%
- composition: active ingredient approx. 5%, perlite 92% w/w, water content approx. 3%
Dose: 2-6 kg/ha (WG), 0,5-1,5 kg/ha (WP)
Effectiveness:
- The product is effective against many soilborne pathogens (Pythium, Phytophthora, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Sclerotinia) used by soil application,
- Main application field are crops and plantations managed in short rotation,
- It can replace fungicide treatment in low dosage by frequent (7-10 days) foliar application based on experiments,
- It can improve for example potato storability by late application,
- The product can trigger Induced Systemic Resistance - ISR, therefore maximum 50% protection can be obtained against foliar diseases (for example Phytophthora infestans in potato or tomato),
- It can significantly decrease the Fusarium and Fusarium toxin content of wheat and corn crops based on a few experimental data,
- It has significant growth promoter effect that is able to reach an average of 20%.
Competition: There are many Trichoderma products existing in the world. Among of them, there are a few with good quality but expensive (for example T-22 in the USA produced by BioWorks, that Koppert imports to Europe named Trianum). There are many American, Australian and Indian products with low price but poor quality. Considering wide application opportunity, there are very few Trichoderma products on the market. TRIFENDER is cheap and good Trichoderma product.
Registration overview: The TRIFENDER (WG formulation) product was registered as microbiological growth promoter in Hungary in 2007. The TRIFENDER WP got registration as microbiological product in Slovakia in 2009 and in Serbia in 2010. After a few examinations, the product is legal to sell in Croatia from 2009. Registration process as microbiological growth promoter in Bulgaria is in progress.
Registration plans and possibilities: The WP formulation has significant advantages in effectiveness, self life and logistic. Official examination results for registration of the formulation as microbilogical growth promoter are available and the registration process will be completed also in Hungary in 2010. Registratioin as microbiological growth promoter is possible in several other European countries. Presence of local distributor partner is necessary for this kind of registration. Registration as plant protection product needs high financial sources. It requires financial partner.
Potential partners: Experiments are running in France initiated by a French company that is interesting to import TRIFENDER as cellulose degrading product. Two Spanish agricultural companies are interested to use TRIFENDER in their production. Experiments are running in Spain.
Trade: Procuct is distributed on the Hungarian market exclusively by Hungarian Kwizda Ltd supplied with the product by Bio-Protector Ltd. The product is distirbuted in Slovakia by BioTomal, in Serbia by A&S Union and in Croatia by ZKI Sljeme.
BOVERIL
Active ingredient: licensed strain of Beauveria bassiana that has registration data available
Formulation:
- WP
- active ingredient content (cell counting by Bürker hemocytometer): 3×108 spore/g, vitality min. 60%
- composition: active ingredient approx. 5%, perlite 92% w/w, water content approx. 3%
Dose: 1,0-2,0 kg/ha
Effectiveness:
- Soil application of the preparation controls western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera), wireworms and common cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha),
- Effectiveness in soil applications depends on the amount of precipitation or the water content of the soil,
- It controls spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) in spruce forests applying in pheromone traps or spraying bait logs,
- It is effective against aphids by foliar spraying.
Competition: There are several Beauvera bassiana products existing in the world. There are two Beauveria bassiana products in the EU market.
Registration:
- Works started to prepare EU registration process as bio-insecticide.
- Data package for microbiological growth promoter registration is already available. However, it is questionable to carry out growth promoter registration.
Partners: Bioved 2005 Ltd works together with BelChim NV in product development and registration. Bio-Protector supports Bioved work and has a trading right for the potential product for the Hungarian market.
Nematode trapping fungus
Active agent: The active agent was received from a research institute as "Arthrobotrys oligospora". Identification work clarified that the particular fungal strain belongs to the Fusarium proliferatum species. Fact being a Fusarium raises toxicological questions that will decide whether registration will be possible? Toxicological studies are running.
Formulation:
- WP
- active ingredient content (cell counting by Bürker hemocytometer): 3×108 spore/g, vitality min. 60%,
- composition: active ingredient approx. 5%, perlite 92% w/w, water conten approx. 3%
Date: 1,0-2,0 kg/ha
Effectiveness:
- Preparation works against soil nematodes as effective as the chemical products presently available on the market (Vydate, Nemathorin),
- Preparation is effective against mites both in the soil and on the leaf surface,
- Spraying on grassy area controls ticks effectively.
Competition Similar product does not exist on the market.
Registration plans, possibilities: Registration of the Fusarium proliferatum strain is questionable because of toxicological reasons. If toxicological results will be acceptable, registration is potentially possible as plant protection product or pest exterminator product.
